Pointe Claire, a quiet town located in the West Island of Montreal is home to a number of small companies. A lot of people aren't aware of about the definition of the word as they believe that it's a separate Island west of Montreal. Actually, it is a part of the West Island includes the entire region from Lachine towards the west. Amanda Brugel was born there in fact, it's true. She only visited for a few days. Brugel began her life in Courtice close to Oshawa. She had a dream to be a dancer, but her growing years meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an article published by the Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am 6 foot 1 inch." When I grew out of the male partners that I worked together, I made the decision to stop. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was an nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who pushed her to take a step in the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the annual school production. She auditioned and ended up playing the leading role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the past 20 years, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screen, attracting the greatest attention when she landed her role as Rita on the award-winning TV series, The Handmaid's Tale
